On April 16, 2008 the Migration Policy Institute issued a report titled
Los
Angeles on the Leading Edge
New MPI Report Assesses Immigrant Integration Needs, Opportunities
in a Region that Serves as a National Laboratory
The following two paragraphs, in italics, are MPI’s
statement about itself and the report.
This report is a product of MPI’s National
Center on Immigrant Integration Policy, with generous support from the
California Community Foundation.
The Migration Policy Institute is an
independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit think tank dedicated to analysis of the
movement of people worldwide. Founded in 2001, MPI provides analysis,
development and evaluation of migration and refugee policies at the local,
national and international levels. It aims to meet the rising demand for
pragmatic and thoughtful responses to the challenges and opportunities that
large-scale migration, whether voluntary or forced, presents to communities and
institutions in an increasingly integrated world.

What follows below are thoughts by Gene Guyant. Guyant retired as a Chief Patrol Agent after a career that included duty in Latin America.
What this study means to us is that we are seeing
our country change forever, right before our eyes. Geography, sheer numbers,
divisive institutions ( e.g., LULAC, Congressional caucuses by specific
racial backgrounds, ditto such Chambers of Commerce ) all work against the
traditional melting pot. On top of that there are spineless, misguided,
opportunistic politicians catering to those interests (the current mayors of
San Francisco, Phoenix, the senior senator from Massachusetts come to mind)
plus the labor unions and the Catholic church which merged goals and managed to
exert enough political power to kill the bracero program in '65, thereby sowing the seeds of
the current invasion.
The deeply ingrained super-nationalistic Mexican culture will never allow for
the integration of the great majority of the millions now illegally among us.
They may come to live among us, but they will continue to be Mexicans at heart
and in spirit. It is NOT as it was with the immigrants of a century ago, the
ones seeking a new life, who even forbad their children to speak anything BUT
English. Currently, the Mexican media regularly carries reports of recurring
hispanic community activities that take place in many cities in our country;
but these gatherings don't enjoy or celebrate traditional AMERICAN events. They
are for the purpose of marking anniversaries of MEXICAN occurrences; they are
to cherish and to continue clinging to their own traditions, not ours. Cinco de
Mayo has permeated our country, though few people know it is the anniversary of
a Mexican battle. Who celebrates the anniversary of the last battle of OUR war
of independence? Who can even name it?
Spanish language radio and TV already control huge
audiences and promote continued use and propagation of an alien language and
culture within the United States. After the huge pro-illegal alien
demonstrations of 2006 the Mexican activists within our midst learned that
massive displays of the Mexican flag generated resentment and that these
displays were counterproductive. They've passed the word around to tone that
down and to use the Stars and Stripes instead. But in their hearts it is the
Mexican flag to which they owe their allegiance. Among all aliens residing in
the United States as permanent residents those from Mexico have historically
had the very lowest rate of naturalization as U.S. citizens; it is only quite
recently that this has begun to change, and only because hispanic activist
leaders are promoting those residents' potential voting power as a means of
influencing politics in favor of the "latino" community interests.
Read: amnesty.
We desperately need strong, imaginative,
motivational leadership in Washington before it is too late. We need a properly
structured, national employer's sanction program that will dry up the job
magnet which keeps beckoning the illegals because such a program would
certainly cause the voluntary departure of millions of them. We need leadership
that will have the guts to tell the Chamber of
Commerce types that it is their greed, pure and simple, which aids and
abets the illegal alien problem and its consequent social ills. It was greed
for cheap labor that brought slaves from Africa to the western hemisphere and
eventually caused the bloodbath of our Civil War. It is greed which is today
luring into our borders the uncounted millions who will forever change our
social structure, our traditions, our language, our very soul.
Today, political correctness run amok demands
"human rights" for illegal aliens. But the simple reality is that
there are billions upon billions of human beings on this planet and we can
neither keep absorbing them all nor providing for their continued well being,
lest we also destroy ourselves.
Remember that the United States of America was founded on socio-political
principles and ideals completely foreign to the mentality of Chiapas,
Zacatecas, Michoacan and the rest. They would rather live in the world of
Aztlan or some such other mindset foreign to us.
