NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FORMER BORDER PATROL OFFICERS
SPEAKS AGAINST SPITZER DRIVER’S LICENSE PROPOSAL.

We are professionals in immigration law enforcement, with millennia of cumulative experience in our group.  We say without equivocation that issuing any government document to an illegal alien is a bad idea.  Every convincing false identity starts with a valid government document as its cornerstone.  With that in hand, additional pieces of identification are obtained and a new identity built.  Eventually, the precursor document is buried and forgotten.

Immigration laws are difficult enough to enforce without the lawbreaker being enabled in his pursuits by the government.  Only if one is willing to disregard the demonstrable adverse impact on society of illegal aliens and false identities can one support the idea of issuing legitimate documents of any sort to them.

We hope that Governor Spitzer will reconsider this appalling proposal.
